Client Assistance Program (CAP) Services Are Open Again at DRT

December 11, 2025

We’re excited to share that our Client Assistance Program (CAP) is open again and ready to support Tennesseans. CAP helps people who apply for or receive services through Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) or Centers for Independent Living (IL), programs that play an important role in helping Tennesseans reach their employment goals.

DRT’s employment work is supported by two federal programs: CAP and Protection and Advocacy for Beneficiaries of Social Security (PABSS). Earlier this year, both programs had to temporarily pause new clients because of the federal government shutdown. And while the shutdown ended on November 12, federal grant funding doesn’t flow back in instantly. Restarting those funds can take time, much like turning on a faucet and waiting for the water to reach full strength again.

Now for the good news: funding for CAP has arrived, and we are fully open to new clients. Our staff are ready to provide guidance, answer questions, and help Tennesseans navigate VR or IL services.

PABSS services are still on pause, but we expect funding to resume within the next few weeks. As soon as these services reopen, we’ll share an update.

Thank you for being part of the DRT community. If you need support, our Resource & Referral team is always here to help.
